The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2021 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Senator Andy Uba has asked Senator Uche Ekwunife not to leave the party again.
Senator Uba who is also the leader of the party in the state made the plea when Senator Ekwunife led thousands of her supporters to join the party on Saturday in Awka.
Senator Ekwunife returned to the party after leaving the party ahead of the 2019 elections to secure the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party for Anambra Central Senatorial District which she won on the platform of the PDP.
She had earlier left the PDP in 2015 and joined the APC when she lost her mandate to represent Anambra Central Senatorial District in the Court of Appeal in the 2015 general elections.
Welcoming the former Senator into the APC fold on Saturday, the few-worded Senator Uba begged Senator Ekwunife to stay permanently in the party now after the state chairman of the party, Chief Basil Ejidike had described her as a “woman who changed the political landscape of Anambra Central”.
“You are welcome into our great party. Don’t leave us again. Don’t leave us like before. You have to stay with us permanently now” – Senator Uba had said.
Senator Ekwunife in the past 17 years has been a card carrying member of at least four political parties who she had also flown their flags at different elections.
These parties include the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP (at different times); the Progressives Peoples Alliance, PPA; All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and now, the All Progressives Congress, APC (also at different times).
Meanwhile, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah representing Anambra South Senatorial District also led thousands of his supporters into the APC at the same event.
