Anambra state government breaching Highway setback on ongoing new bus park under construction

The ongoing fencing of a piece of land in Awka, Anambra State capital territory gathered by The Chambers News to have been allocated for a bus park may be in breach of the Highway setback regulations.

The said park, learnt by our correspondents to being constructed by Anambra State Government through the Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency, ARTMA, is located in front of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, corporate headquarters, near Arroma junction, Awka.

When The Chambers News visited the site on Sunday afternoon, it observed that the fencing which is nearing completion is in breach of the Highway setback regulation which provides that buildings or such structures must be located in a distance at least 45 metres from the centre to the property line and give the highway 90 metres right of way.

The fence of the new part is less than a metre Enugu-Onitsha expressway a Federal Highway.

Pictures taken by The Chambers News show a pictorial evidence of this legal breach.

The Chambers News wonders why Awka Capital Development Authority, ACTDA, the agency of Anambra State Government charged with development regulations in the state capital territory with its head office just few seconds away from the site has not intervened in the anomaly.

Also why ARTMA, the implementing agency, expected, to be conversant with the traffic rules is supervising such a breach.

The Chambers News also wonders why the a bus park will be sited infront of a broadcast media organization like ABS.
