The member representing Awka North and South in the House of Representatives, Professor Lilian Orogbu has applauded the Non-governmental Organisation, All for Women Initiative NIGERIA, A-WIN, over its mission to improve the living standards of women.
The federal lawmaker gave the commendation when she received in audience a delegation of A-WIN in her office at the Federal House of Representatives complex in Abuja.
A-WIN is a non-governmental organization committed to harnessing the potential of different sectors of the economy for the growth and development of women, the girl child, and vulnerable children in the country through advocacy and other initiatives.
While endorsing the group, Honourable Orogbu who expressed delight over the initiative as it will continue to awaken the interest of women in politics which is in line with vision of the National Assembly, enjoined everyone to place priority on the upliftment of the women.
She urged women on the need to take responsibilities as power is never given but, rather, is taken; which she said can only be achieved through collective action led by women themselves.
The Lawmaker assured the group of the continuous support of her office to realize their vision among women, children and the vulnerable especially among Ndi Anambra through education, skills acquisition, health initiatives.
Earlier, the Leader of the delegation, Comrade Stella Igboka, revealed that the group is driven by the vision to realize a society where the dignity, rights, and virtues of womanhood are protected and preserved.
Comrade Igboka solicited the collaboration of the Lawmaker and others to champion the cause of women through their regular strategy of public engagement, women education and looking out for the school children and the girl child to ensure they are in the right track.
She commended the lawmaker for her involvement in programmes that shape the place of women in the country through her active representation in the Green Chambers.
Comrade Igboka used the occasion to solicit for a partnership with A-WIN during their upcoming event slated for 7th March 2024 to mark the International Women’s Day, featuring lectures, interaction with major women leaders drawn from the 21 council areas of the state and other parts of the state and road shows.
Other members of the delegation were Mrs. Ify Obi of the UNIZIK FM Awka, Barrister Vivian Otti from Imo State, among others
