In response to their cries for attention and help, the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has reached out to the Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Home, Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area.
Mrs Soludo, who visited the home to celebrate Mother’s Sunday with the children of the home, assured that every necessary assistance from the state government would be accorded to the children at the home to help them in their survival against sickle cell disorder.
Represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, Mrs Soludo donated bags of rice and money to the home.
The Anambra first lady said that the state government would prioritize healthcare service delivery for the benefit of every Anambra citizen, and would partner with the Association of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder, APLSCD, to increase sickle cell sensitization and awareness in the state.
She advised people especially intending couples, to take the issue of genotype compatibility very serious to help in reducing birth of children with sickle cell disorder.
Receiving the Governor’s wife and her entourage, the Director of Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Home, Agulu, Mrs Aisha-Edward Maduagwu, expressed joy over her support to people living with sickle cell disorder at the home, describing the visit as the best thing to have happened to the sickle cell community in recent times.
She praised the Soludo administration for having human face, and used the opportunity to assure of commitment to acts that would dignify the state, particularly the rehabilitation and giving succour to the indigent and orphaned children living with sickle cell disorder.
