The students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, have expressed concerns over the rising cases of death among female students.
Last week Friday, the dead body of a female student was found inside a ditch, opposite Akanu Ibiam stadium. There are rumors that the Friday incident was actually the third time within the space of three weeks that a female student is discovered dead .
Though the other two were said to have happened outside the university campus, but not far off.
We spoke to some students to know their take on the matter.
A 200 level ,Combined biological Science Student, Promise Nwankwo opined thatfFemales are the ones that fall victim because they are not contented with what they have, they long to get what they can’t afford.
However, she advised students to minimise how they long to get what they can’t afford.
Also, a 300 level Microbiology student, Gboga Emmanuel, said that one of the causes of this incident is as a result of students not being conscious of the environment, lack of knowledge on how things are done as Newbees and lack of guidance.
Another student, Chukwunta Philip a 300 level student of Mass Communication argued that incident like this happens as a result of ineffective Security of the University, thereby advising Students to be mindful of the environment they are in and keep good friends.
However, this menace has raised a security concern in the campus, but a Press release by the University management stating that the issue is under investigation, and assured the students and every member of the University that the Campus security are working tirelessly in collaboration with other security agencies to fish out the perpetrators and prevent further reoccurrence.
