‘Educate Enugwu-Agidi Committee’, a subsidiary of club of patrons and matrons of Community Secondary School, CSS, and Government Technical College, GTC, Enugwu-Agidi, has handed over a newly renovated and remodeled Mrs Mary Okam Laboratory Complex at Community Secondary School, Enugwu-Agidi, to the school.
The laboratory complex, named after an illustrious daughter of Enugwu-Agidi and renowned educatonist, houses the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics laboratories, and an ICT center.
The handover ceremony of the complex also featured the groundbreaking of a six-bedroom Corpers’ Lodge aimed at ensuring that the school is well-staffed with comfortable, free accommodation provided for youth corps members posted to the school.
Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-udeh, who addressed the gathering before commissioning the laboratory complex, stated the when progressivism is enthroned among a people, there are always better results.
She noted that though he met schools without teachers and with other rots, Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to repositioning the education of the state is unwavering.
The Education Commissioner also noted that the projects are testimonies that the public private community partnership model of the Governor is working, and thanked Enugwu-Agidi people for thinking good about the future of their children.
Principal of CSS Enugwu-Agidi, Mrs Thecla Azubike, who described the projects as remarkable achievements, recalled the dilapidated nature of structures she met on ground, as well as efforts made to change the narrativee, adding that the laboratory complex will help in effective teaching and learning of related subjects.
Earlier, the Traditional ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, Igwe Michael Okekeuche, who recalled activities of herdsmen in the school because of lack of perimeter fence and fire incidents that gutted the old laboratories, called on government to assist the community more in repositioning the school.
National Cordinator of Educate Enugwu-Agidi Committee, Prince Chinedu Ikeanyi, represented by a member of the committee, Engr Victor Onwudinjo, said the move to improve education in the community is in line with Governor Soludo’s charge to school Principals to rally people in their areas of assignment for development in the education sector, calling on other well-to-do individuals in the community to join hands in shaping the future of future generations.
He listed the members of the group of like-minded individuals in Enugwu-Agidi as Prince Dr. Chinedu Ikeanyi – Coordinator, Engr. Victor Onwundinjo – Project Coordinator, Chief Nnamdi Okam, Engr. Nnoli Okoye, Ozo Sunny Okoye (Obah), Mrs. Angela Aguolu, Evang. Mrs. Irene Nwachukwu, Dr. Chisom Nwaneki and Mr. Ebuka Okeke (Teacher/School Rep), and associate members and donors as Ozo Innocent Obiorah, Engr. Chuks Nwodili, Dr. Samuel Anameze, Chief Osita Nwanisiobi, Ozo Clem Aguiyi and Ichie Emeka Onuorah.
It was gathered that the EEAC gesture is intended to stop the current practice of Enugwu-Agidi children going to Amawbia or Awka schools for their secondary school experiences simply because there are no functional science labs at Enugwu-Agidi schools, just as it is committed to ensuring that both secondary schools in the community have modern and functional science laboratories in this era of emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM.
“The total cost for rehabilitating the Laboratories Complex at Community Secondary School, Enugwu-Agidi, is about N25m, while N6.5m was expanded on rehabilitation of the 2-Classrooms of the 6-Classrooms block at Government Technical School, Enugwu-Agidi. Ozo Innocent Obiorah single handedly funded the 2-Classrooms of the 6-Classrooms block rehabilitation at Government Technical School, Enugwu-Agidi in partnership with ASUBEB.
Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU) National Executive Committee actually started the rehabilitation work by doing the wooden roof truss but got stuck for over one year before EEAC took over and completed the works. The steel doors and windows were installed by the EBU NEC after EEAC had fabricated theirs, some of which were thereafter used in the ASUBEB rehabilitated 5-Classrooms block in the School”, EEAC source revealed.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs Ifeoma Agbaizu, member, PPSSC, Awka zone, Dr Mrs Uche Okeke, among others attended the event that featured cultural dance by students of the school.
