PRAWA Honours Anambra AG, Ifemeje For Establishing Bureau Of Missing Persons, Other Contributions In Justice Sector Reforms

For her giant strides in the justice sector reforms; especially being the first to establish Bureau of Missing Persons, a non governmental organization, NGO, Persons Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA) has given an award of recognition to the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje.

The award presentation made by the Founder/ Executive Director of PRAWA, Professor Uju Agomoh, at a “State-Federal Level Governance Dialogue on Correctional Administration and other related issues” in Abuja was also in recognition of Professor Ifemeje as one of the two Attorneys-General to come up with Correctional Service Bill in Nigeria.

The event, courtesy of RoLAC International Idea II and PRAWA, was declared open by the Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and aimed at ascertaining how far states have gone in domesticating their Correctional Service Law.

Earlier in her presentation, Professor Ifemeje, among others, explained that the Anambra State Correctional Service Bill, 2024 will stand the test of time when signed into law.

She stated that the bill is in line with international best practices in correctional service, and will help in effective management of facilities in the state when passed into law; in line with the 2023 amendment of the constitution which removed Correctional Service from Exclusive to Concurrent Legislative list.
