Journalists have been commended for their selfless to the society.
The 2024 Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Man of the Year in Anambra State, Chief Dr Chinedu Umeadi, who gave the commendation during a courtesy visit by NUJ members and stakeholders at his home in Abagana, Njikoka Council Area, expressed gratitude to the NUJ for finding him worthy of the prestigious award, among other eminently qualified persons in the state.
Dr. Umeadi, with the traditional title of “Agụnechemba” commended journalists for their watchdog and information roles to the society, and reassured them of his continuous support as NUJ man of the year in advancing journalism practice, just as he promised to be present at next NUJ man of the year.
On his selfless service to humanity, the Anambra Central Senatorial candidate for YPP said more things will be done in the state to touch more lives in positive ways.
Earlier in his remark, the Anambra State Chairman of the NUJ, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, explained that the visit was to have a formal interaction with the 2024 NUJ man of the year; as he was out of the country as at the time of the event.
He noted that the visit also provided an opportunity to present him with the NUJ Magazine ‘The Watchdog’, as well as to formally congratulate him on the well-deserved recognition.
Dr Odogwu also commended Dr Umeadi for his impacts in the society, and sought his continuous support for the activities of the NUJ in Anambra.
Also speaking, the NUJ Matriarch and Chairman of the 2024 NUJ Press Week, Professor Stella Okunna, who congratulated Chief Dr Umeadi for emerging top in the keenly contested award, noted that NUJ awards involve rigorous selection process and are only awarded to individuals based on merit, and urged Dr Umeadi to see the NUJ man of the year award as a call to do more for the society.
Others who spoke during the visit, including the Chairman of the 2024 NUJ Press Week Planning Committee, Dr. Njideka Ezeonyejiaku, Chairman of the 2025 NUJ Electoral Committee, Dr. Stanley Onunkwor, former Chairman of the NUJ in the state, Comrade Francis Ekpone, commended dr Umeadi for his selfless service, leadership qualities, humility and selfless service to humanity.
