Rotary Clubs Of Awka, Awka-Smithtown, Awka-Urban Plant 50 “Trees of Life” To Mark End Of The Year 2024

To mark their end of the year 2024, the Rotary Club of Awka, Rotary Club of Awka-Smithtown and Rotary Club of Awka-Urban have planted fifty golden palm trees termed “trees of life”, as well as embarked on environmental sanitation in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The project, in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Environment and Anambra State Waste Management Agency, ASWAMA, took place at Esther Obiakor Avenue and Aroma Flyover, all in Awka.

Describing trees as essential to the ecosystem, and the tree-planting exercise as “urban forestation”; similar to what is happening in his ministry, the Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odimegwu appreciated the efforts, contributions and support of Rotary Club International, especially in identifying with the state government on environmental sustainability, in line with the objective of the Soludo administration.

ASWAMA boss, Mike Ozoemena, described the partnership as a good one, and expressed readiness for future engagements.

President of the Rotary Club of Awka, Rtn. Dr. Sir Nwabufo Nwankwo, President of the Rotary Club of Awka-Smithtown, Rtn. Sir Alex Arinze Ali, and President of the Rotary Club of Awka-Urban, Rtn. Mirabel Obiora, were present during the tree-planting and environmental sanitation exercises.
