Tenant Loses N5 Million As Bailiff, Security Men Enforce Court Judgement In Awka Without Notice

Drama ensued today, Thursday 31st July, 2025, at No. 27 Seaman Avenue, Secretariat road Awka, as occupants of the building woke up to face forceful evacuation from a bailiff and security men, armed to the teeth, who said that they were enforcing an Awka Magistrate Court judgement over the said property.

According to Chibuzor Okoye, some of the residents who spoke to newsmen regretted that they were not informed of any court judgement, and that they are paying their rents as at when due before the forceful evacuation.

They wondered how a court of competent jurisdiction will give a judgement over a property without notifying the occupants, or even giving them a one week notice to vacate the building.

A concerned citizen whose wife’s shop was affected, Comrade Osita Obi, said that he lost five million naira cash he kept at his wife’s shop because they were not there when the compound was broke into, wondering how a judgement would be given without tenants of the house knowing about it.

Comrade Obi called on the Anambra State Government to intervene in the matter, as his wife and other occupants of the house have lost everything they labored for.

He maintained that the occupants of the building are not contesting the ownership of the house, but should be notified when ownership changes hands.
