A community leader in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mr. Prosper Okwuegbunam, has called for responsible use of the social media to avoid creating negative impression about security situation in the state.

Reacting to a reported attempt on the life of his fellow Irualom Nkwele Awkuzu man who used his social media platform, Facebook, to call out and malign prominent and politically exposed persons in the community and neighboring Ifitedunu over alleged land grabbing, Mr. Okwuegbunam, who is also a member of Land Committee in Nkwele Awkuzu called for caution on the part of his brother, names withheld, saying that those being called out and maligned did no wrong to them as a people.

He explained that their land they sold was in dispute from time immemorial, until the man from Ifitedunu helped to broker peace between contending parties, wondering why his Irualom Nkwele Awkuzu brother is raising unnecessary dust when it was agreed that their own portion of the land should be sold, and after proceeds from the sale had been duly shared.

A Navy personnel at Awkuzu junction who spoke on condition of anonymity narrated how a young man reported an attack on him one evening, and when his men stormed the reported “crime scene”, there was no evidence of any security threat, describing it as possibly a social media freak.
