Ministry of Justice Transmits Two Bills To Anambra Assembly For Consideration

Anambra State Ministry of Justice has prepared and transmitted the “Anambra State Correctional Services Bill” to the state House of Assembly for consideration and passage into law.

 

This is to give legal effect to the recent amendment to the Nigerian constitution which places management of Correctional Service Centres under the concurent legislative list.

 

Another executive bill before the house for legislative actions is the “Anambra State Criminal Law Bill“.

 

Attorney General of the state and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, who disclosed this after transmitting the bills to the state legislature, described them as innovative.

 

Explaining that the enactment of the Correctional Service bill will ensure humane and effective management of offenders, Professor Ifemeje also said that the proposed criminal law will help in introducing groundbreaking innovations in the state criminal justice system, in line with international best practices.
