The Traditional ruler of Eziowelle community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Michael Ugobelunorji Nwafor Okonkwo-Etusi, the Owelle of Eziowelle, has said that despite refusal of the Abuja, Lagos and Onitsha branches to remit money to the mother union through the instigation of few people, the Preident General of Eziowelle Improvement Union, EIU, Barr Titus Akpudo, has performed creditably well in office, and has since October 2023 opened the floor for a change of leadership come 29th June 2024, which is known to members of the community and the government.

Reacting to the alleged take over of the town union leadership by EIU General Assembly, the monarch said that the merchants of such tale are not bonafide EIU members, and have for the past 6 years tried to use their wealth and connection with the police to cow Barr. Akpudo and his team in order to subvert the town’s constitution that zoned PG position to Ubulu village.

He recalled that the same group of people had instituted court cases against the PG; with no result yet, and are still hellbent on causing problem in Eziowelle using the wealth they haven’t used to help the community and their relations.

Igwe Eziowelle, who also noted that the same people had tried to convince former Governor Willie Obiano and the incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo to remove the PG over frivolous allegations because they can hire the press, police and lawyers, said same people had sued the Governor, Attorney General and LG Commissioner, and has continued to flout the laws of the government of the day.

On peace efforts made, the monarch said he had invited the PG and the trouble makers for a meeting, but the latter refused to attend, after which concerned stakeholders followed their ring leader to Abuja for reconciliation, but he keeps refusing.

On working with the PG to set Eziowelle on the path of disunity, the Traditional ruler said with his 32yrs on the throne and immense tangible contributions to the development of the community, Eziowelle people are happy with him, whom they can as well remove democratically; according to their constitution, adding that concerned stakeholders had encouraged the PG to ignore the trouble makers, knowing that their matter will eventually fizzle out.

Lending their voices, the people of Ubulu village Eziowelle; through 66yr-old Chief Jerry Umerah, Youth Leader, Chief Tochukwu Okafor-Imoh and Mr Anthony Kwuelum, said there is no crisis in the community, except that after Ubulu was graciously and constitutionally allowed to produce the PG, which its processes are on, few people began to scheme to thwart the overall interest of the community.

Mr Kwuelum specifically warned that if his village, Ubulu, is denied the opportunity of producing the next PG the town’s constitution zoned to them, they will go autonomous, urging the trouble makers to use their wealth for the good of Eziowelle community, and not to create confusion.
