Expedite Action, Provide Orderlies For Judges – Justice Shuaibu Requests Police Authority In Anambra

Honourable Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court, Awka has requested the Police authority in Anambra to expedite action and provide for Police orderlies for Judges of the court.

Addressing a learned counsel and Police Prosecutor, M.C. Eboh, who appeared before the Judge, Justice Shuaibu complained that he has not been provided with Police orderly about a month after he assumed duty in Anambra State.

He maintained that he and other Judges are entitled to Police protection, and urged lawyers in Police service to advocate for more protection for judicial officers.

Responding, the Police Prosecutor, Eboh promised to convey the Judge’s concerns to the Police authority.

In 2015, the then Acting Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, directed Commissioners of Police to immediately establish Judges Protection Units, JPUs, for the protection of Judges and courts in their respective areas of jurisdiction, and also directed the Commissioners to assign Assistant Commissioners of Police in charge of Training and Development to conduct training and orientation for personnel designated for the JPUs.

A statement signed by the then Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the units were to ensure the judiciary had adequate security to carry out their duties.
