Having 15 bills passed into law since inception of office has been described as laudable and unparalleled landmark achievement of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration.
The laws are Multi-Door Courthouse Law, 2022, Burial-Funeral Control Law, 2022, Environmental Management, Protection and Administration Law, 2024, Secret Cultism and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law, 2024, Market Safety Law, 2024, House Service Commission (Amendment) Law, 2023, Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission Law, 2024.
Others are Revenue Administration Law, 2024, Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency Law, 2024, Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2024, Peace Building and Conflict Management Law, 2024, Touting (Prohibition) Law, 2024, Private College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery Law, 2024, Anambra State Electoral Law, 2024, and Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2022.
Speaking on expeditious dispensation of justice under Governor Soludo while declaring open the 2024 edition of training session for law officers in the Anambra State Ministry of Justice, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, noted that one of Governor Soludo’s manifesto promises is to collaborate with the legislature and judiciary in the promulgation of appropriate laws and expeditious dispensation of Justice.
She explained that established specialized courts for Sexual and Gender-based Violence cases at both Magisterial and High Court levels have been yielding desired result by sending signal to culprits that the state government has zero tolerance for such cases.
While charging participants to put lessons of the training into practice in order to sharpen their legal skills in advocacy and stand out in legal practice, Professor Ifemeje equally urged the state law officers to be more committed to their job by taking measures that will help them in serving the state more effectively.
On ways of creating conducive environment for state counsels to discharge their duties, the Justice Commissioner stated that the Soludo administration has approved the renovation of four of the Ministry of Justice outstations, even as it recently boosted the infrastructural development of the judiciary by approving the construction of four court halls in Awka and four judge’s residential quarters, among other strides in the justice sector.
In her remark, the Permanent Secretary supervising Ministry of Justice, Barrister Mrs Ndirika Onyekwelu, tasked participants on team work and the need to avoid insubordination in order to achieve great heights in service to the state.
At the one-day training session, Honourable Justice David Onyefulu of High Court 3 Onitsha made presentation on “… overview of criminal proceedings from the perspective of the prosecution”, Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary Emeritus in the ministry, Barrister Emmanuel Ike appraised ‘cross examination’ as a weapon in the hands of adversary party in trials in court and tribunals, while Dr Mrs Uju Okoye from the Anambra State Ministry of Health thanked the ministry of justice for birthing VAPP Laws that have helped in shaping operations of health workers.
Participants at the event, including Senior State Counsels, Ginika Olisa and Ifeoma Nwigwe, said new tips gathered at the training session will help them improve in their practice, especially in service to the state.
At the annual event, a minute silence was observed in honor of departed law officers and spouses, while a Catholic Priest, Reverend Father Ejike Nwankwo, closed the event with a special prayer session.
