… donates food, other items to Divine Mercy Compassion Home, Amawbia
17 patients at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka have benefited from the kind gesture of an Umuawulu-born philanthropist, High Chief Azubike Ekweozor; as he visited the hospital and paid their hospital bills as part of activities to mark his 53rd birthday celebration.
Chief Ekweozor, through his Ide Global Movement, paid the hospital bills of the patients totalling 3.5 million naira over the weekend.
After visiting the male and female surgical wards, as well as Mother and Child Referral Centre of the hospital where he handed over evidence of payment to the beneficiaries, Chief Ekweozor also visited and donated food and other items to Divine Mercy Compassion Home, Amawbia, also to celebrate his birthday.
Describing the gesture as laudable and commendable, the Nurse in-charge of the Male and Female Surgical Wards of the hospital, Ms Louisa Ibekwe, appealed to other non-governmental organisations and foundations to emulate Ide Global Movement in looking out for vulnerable people and extending helping hands to them.
Appreciation Chief Ekweozor, some of the beneficiaries, including Mr Ikenna Aniedo from Achalla; Mr. Chigozie Nwanebe from Amawbia; Mrs Nneka Ndubuisi from Awka; and Mrs Mary Ọkpara from Umuawulu wished the benefactor a happy birthday and prayed God to continue increasing him in all his endeavours.
At Divine Mercy Compassion Home, Amawbia, the Matron, Reverend Sister Chizorom Ugwu, joined children at the center in thanking and wishing Chief Ekweozor a memorable birthday celebration.
Speaking to journalists after the visits, Chief Ekweozor said the gesture was to also to celebrate his first son, Prince Chimezie Azubuike Ekweozor who shares same birthday with him.
Chief Ekweozor, represented by the Cordinator of Ide Global Movement, Mr Casmir Obiegbolu, explained that as part of the foundation’s efforts to help less-privileged individuals in the society, Ide Global Movement is committed to helping vulnerable people in the society, especially unemployed youths, orphans, nursing mothers, children, widows as well as the sick.
“This foundation which was established decade ago is aimed at supporting and helping vulnerable people around the world, particularly the unemployed youths, orphans, nursing mothers, children as well as the widows and that’s why we are in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching hospital Amaku-Awka to put smiles on the faces of some patients who were not able to settle their hospital bills.
“We have been in this humanitarian mission for decade to contribute our quota for a better society. We have supported a lot of vulnerable people and we will continue..
“We are asking the general public to please join us in this course in ensuring necessary support for the needy around us”.
Earlier in an ABS radio programme to also mark the birthday celebration, Chief Ekweozor, who endorsed Governor Chukwuma Soludo for a second term in office, noted that the “Akuluo uno” philosophy of the Anambra State Government is worth supporting, calling on Ndị Anambra to heed the call in order to speed up development of the state and meaningfully engage the youths; thereby tackling insecurity.
The birthday celebration climaxed with cutting of cake and special prayer for the celebrants led by the Traditional ruler of Umuawulu, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu at his palace.
