Anambra Community Declares 4 Days Of Mourning Over Killing Of Youths

Following the killing of young men from Enugwu-Ukwu at Agu lsionye, Enugwu-Ukwu, on Monday, 5th September 2024, the community in Njikoka Local Goverment Area of Anambra State has declared 4 four days of mourning.

A statement titled “A DECLARATION THAT ALL ENUGWUS MOURN FOR 4 DAYS (OFU IZU)” and signed by the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Ralph Ekpe, explained that the days of mourning, which started 6am today, Monday, 16th September 2024, will end at 6pm on Thursday, 18th September 2024.

The statement explained that the mourning period is a time of meditation to plead with the sovereign king of heaven and earth to console those who lost their loved ones in this senseless act of lawlessness and inhumanity, and to meditate and pray that such calamity does not befall the community again.

During the days of mourning, Nkwo and all other markets in the community will remain closed, including shops along the roads and streets, while movements should be restricted to those going to hospitals, places of work, and places of worship.

Also, the atmosphere should be solemn, sober and sombre, while the community vigilante groupe is to maintain 24-hour patrols on all roads and streets in Enugwu-Ukwu, according to the statement.

It urged Enugwus in the diaspora to join in the exercise, noting that “The God we worship is a Sovereign God of Peace, Love, and Vengeance.
