A wave of optimism is sweeping across the country following the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Government and the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN).
Many believe the agreement signals a new dawn for national security, youth engagement, and grassroots development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In Awka, the Anambra State Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Innocent Okolo, described the MoU as a bold step that demonstrates the President’s genuine commitment to the safety and wellbeing of Nigerians, noting that the agreement represents a long awaited recognition of the Peace Corps’ three decades of resilience and sacrifice, despite challenges that had at times threatened its very existence.
Mr. Okolo assured that officers in Anambra will be guided to imbibe the spirit of dedication, discipline, and service to humanity and emphasized that peace and stability remain the foundation of development, and that every Nigerian has a role to play in safeguarding lives and property.
He also praised the leadership of the Corps under Dr. Dickson Akoh, who, despite years of uncertainty, stirred the organisation with courage and vision.
According to him, the resilience of the Peace Corps family is now paying off, as the MoU formalises its operations nationwide and firmly positions it within the framework of Nigeria’s security and youth empowerment.
As communities, civil society groups, and security stakeholders continue to applaud the development, the partnership is widely viewed as a reflection of solidarity between government and citizens, aimed at building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria.
