Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo has noted concerns of interested parties and relevant stakeholders in the Igweship tussle in Azia community, Ihiala LGA, and assured that it will take a position that will be in the interest of members of the community soonest.
Mr. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, Commissioner for Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, who announced this at Government House, Awka after a meeting with stakeholders from the community which he presided over for the purpose of bringing lasting solution to the Igweship tussle in the community, said noted that there was a procedural error in previous attempts to enthrone a new Igwe.
He however, urged Azia stakeholders to help in achieving peace in the community, assuring that the Soludo administration is interested in returning power to the grassroots.
Member representing Ihiala Constituency Two at Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Golden Iloh, in his remark, restated Governor Soludo’s determination to enthrone peace in various communities in the state, and thanked the Governor for giving special attention to his constituents over the Igweship tussle, adding that whatever position government will take, his personal support will be in the best interest of Azia people.
Contributing, the President General of the community, Dr. Tonna Nwabueze, who said that the Igweship tussle in Azia has taken a great toll on the community, regretted that previous administrations didn’t address the issue, reason he thanked Governor Soludo for giving them hope of a getting a new traditional ruler in the nearest future.
Other members of Azia community who spoke after the meeting, including the immediate past President General, Chief Ken Maduako, Chief Paul Orajiaka, Chief Hyginus Ifenatuora, and a youth leader, Mr. Tochukwu Okwuoha, believed they have made enough sacrifices for the good of the community, and that government position will be accepted and be in the interest of peace and development of the community.
Most of the Azia community stakeholders who spoke at the meeting called for a fresh election, while others insisted that z contestant to the traditional stool, Chief Felix Ifeanyimuo should be given certificate of recognition by the government.
